Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status with his folk-based pop songs most of which were based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell, New Mexico. He fell in love with Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's state anthems inspired people to travel to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared that John Denver is the only musician to truly embody Colorado. Denver was the initial Hall of Fame inductee in 2011. Today, he is Colorado's international image. If you travel with me, you are likely to meet people from the other side of the globe. For example people from New Zealand. And when you say that you are Colorado-based, Colorado the response is "Oh John Denver!" Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief career as a folk musician and was his debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff used Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the track, however Denver recognized that the song could turn into a hit once he heard an earlier version. The song was recorded by the singer just a few days later when he performed it in front of the awe-inspiring crowd on the streets of Washington D.C.
